The name Al Zubarah is actually the name of the town, it was known as fishing and trading fort back in 18th century, now classified as Qatar's largest heritage site.
The town is now deserted and preserved as museum and landmark, everyone is free visit the site everyday from 8 am to 6 pm. No Admission fee, and don't forget to bring your own drinks and food, the place is completely deserted and isolated.

Do you want to know the history of the fort?
Did you know that Al Khalifa, the ruling family of Bahrain came from Al Zubarah town. It is where they started before they conquered Bahrain in 1783, that explains the reason of Bahrain contest of the land. Then in 1938 Al Thani built the fort to replaced the old Qalat Murair and used as guard station over the area.
LOCATION : The fort is located northwestern coast of Qatar, 107 km from Doha. Sign is everywhere and you could always use waze. Not to worry the roads are fully paved.

There are also rules to follow and these are written right at the entrance of the site such as:
- No Parking outside the visiting time
- Please wear modest clothing
- Please respect the local tradition
- No Smoking
- No Food and Beverages allowed inside
- No dangerous activities
- Keep your pets on a leash outside the fort
